Progress at the construction of the BCP at Kapi e Sfircës

Minister for Dialogue, Edita Tahiri, held a working meeting with the representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning, Municipality of Kamenica, Kosovo Police and Customs wherein was discussed and was given report on the progress of the construction of a new border crossing point between the Republic of Kosovo and Serbia in the location Kapi e Sfircës, which was agreed in Brussels at the request and insistence of Kosovo in the framework of cross-border cooperation agreement IBM.

During this meeting, representatives from the Kosovo Police reported that the project has been drafted and the tendering and contract procedures have already started, while the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning confirmed that they completed the expropriation procedures and the next procedure is the equipment with relevant permits. Municipality of Kamenica, represented by deputy mayor, reported that they are completing the legal aspects for the provision of services related to the functioning of the border crossing point.

The inauguration of the commencement of works is expected to be done in September 2016. The opening of the border crossing point at Kapia e Sfircës, which connects Kamenica and Medvegja, it is of great importance because it will contribute to the development of the Municipality of Kamenica and will facilitate the movement of Albanians living in Preseva Valley and especially those from Medvegje, because it will shorten the journey for more than 80 km. This border crossing point will function according to the IBM’s model for border crossing points between the two countries.

The meeting chaired by the Minister for Dialogue, Edita Tahiri, was also attended by Dren Zeka – Chief Political Adviser of the Minister, Arben Çitaku – Secretary General of MESP, Shaban Guda – Director of Border Police, Fatmir Matoshi – Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Kamenica, Bekim Mehmetaj – IBM leader of Kosovo Customs, and Halil Fejza and Blerim Mustafaj from Kosovo Police.
