Pristina, 29 August 2008
The Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr Ramë Manaj, today received Dr Maaria Seppanen and Mr Antti Karttunen from the Finnish Institute for Public Management “HAUS”, commissioned by the government to evaluate Finnish donations in Kosovo.
Deputy Prime Minister Manaj began by thanking the Government and people of Finland for the support given to Kosovo at all times, particularly in the period after the war. He emphasised the support given in the sectors of agriculture, health and education and in capacity-building in the area of human rights protection.
With the aim of increased effectiveness of donations, Mr Manaj amongst other things sought local ownership of project implementation. This, he said, was reinforced in the Kosovo Donors’ Conference in Brussels.
The Finnish donations evaluation team, Dr Maaria Seppanen and Antti Karttunen, are interested in the best means of making the most of donations and the sectors in need. They promised that Finland would continue throughout the coming period to aid the people of Kosovo in many fields.
The experts of the “HAUS” Institute will be based in Kosovo until 6 September 2008 to discuss with national authorities and internationals the best ways of implementing projects financed by donations.
