WORKING GROUP ON ELECTIONS HELD IN BRUSSELS

Today, in Brussels, the next meeting of the Working Group on Elections was held, as part of the agreement on normalization of relations between the Republic of Kosovo and that of Serbia, with the mediation of the European Union.

On the agenda of this meeting, was the further definition of the facilitating role of the OSCE for the good conduct of local elections in the Republic of Kosovo to be held on November 3, 2013, the issue of voting outside Kosovo according to the law on elections and aspects relating to the updating of voter lists for the four municipalities in the northern part of Kosovo.

Another point on the agenda of this meeting was the issue of providing information and raising awareness to encourage a high turnout of Kosovo citizens in the four Serb majority municipalities in the northern part of Kosovo, where for the first time, Serbian citizens will vote for legitimate institutions of the Kosovo state.

In this context, information about how to vote outside Kosovo, including for displaced persons, is of particular importance and the KEC in cooperation with the OSCE have agreed to organize an information campaign for voting procedures and participation in elections. 

With regard to the voter list, our side stated that it was being finalized and it would be very comprehensive and that it aims to provide the right to participate in elections to all Kosovo citizens with the right to vote, regardless of difference, according to the applicable laws in Kosovo and international standards.

At this meeting, the Kosovo delegation was comprised of Ms. Valdete Daka, head of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kosovo, and Qemajl Marmullakaj, Gazmir Raci and Abedin Mehmeti.
