Prishtina, 4 July 2009

The following is the telegram sent by Prime Minister Thaçi.

Honorable President Obama,

Allow me, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, to convey the warmest congratulations to you and the American people, on the 233rd Anniversary of the Independence of the United States of America. The birth of the American nation was based on the most fundamental values of human civilization: freedom, democracy, equality and human dignity. These values have radiated throughout the whole world; serving as a guarantee against tyranny, oppression and injustice.

The declaration of the independence of Kosovo was made precisely on the basis of these values and fundamental rights. The constitution, laws and principles of the functioning of the Republic of Kosovo reflect the values and highest standards of democracy, a multi-ethnic society, the equality of all people, the rule of law, the freedom of expression and a free market economy. The support of the United States of America for every step of Kosovo’s towards freedom, independence and development has been decisive and irreplaceable.

The independence and recognition of the Republic of Kosovo has proven to be a factor of stability; bringing clarity, cooperation and good neighborliness to our whole region. The Republic of Kosovo is now reccognized by 60 states – the most influential states in the world – and it is a full member in the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. Our strategic goal is to be fully part of the Euro-Atlantic community, NATO and the European Union.

While congratulating you once again, Honorable President Obama, for the anniversary of your country’s independence; allow me to assure you that Kosovo’s institutions and people will continue to cultivate, even more so, the values and spirit of friendliness as well as the excellent and everlasting cooperation with the people and Government of the United States of America.
