The Government of the Republic of Kosovo welcomes the submission of visa liberalization roadmap for Kosovo

The Government of the Republic of Kosovo welcomes the long awaited hand-over of the visa liberalization roadmap, undertaken today by European Committee and which is carried out in coordination with the member states of European Union. This is also a clear confirmation that Kosovo is moving firmly moving toward European integration and the work in this direction will be rewarded with tangible benefits for the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo.

The Government of the Republic of Kosovo expresses its satisfaction that this process, meeting the prerequisites to attain visa liberalization for the citizens of Kosovo, which is submitted today, is in compliance with the European Union enlargement policy, and is similar to the integration process of the entire region of Western Balkans.

The Government is committed that in order to conclude this process as soon as possible, it will give assign priority to the requirements contained in the chapters which pertain to document security, border management, public order and security and fundamental rights, as well as remaining conditions in terms of readmission and repatriation .

The Government of the Republic of Kosovo wants to thank all those involved in the process so far. This chapter of the process is concluded given the commitment of central and local level institutions  in addressing challenges related to migration, document security, reforms in the Rule of Law, as well as improving conditions for readmission and reintegration of the repatriated persons. From now on this will be a key commitment so that in this process will move forward. 

The hand-over of the roadmap for visa liberalization took place at today’s meeting between the Commissioner for Internal Affairs, Mrs. Cecilia Malmström and Kosovo’s Minister for European Integration, Ms. Vlora Çitaku and the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Bajram Rexhepi. A part of this delegation was also the head of the assembly committee for European Integration, Mr. Lutfi Haziri, mayors of Municipalities, Mr. Qemajl Mustafa – Gjilan, Mr. Ali Berisha – Peja, Mr. Haki Rugova – Istog, and Mr. Bojan Stojanoviq – Graçanica.

“The First Meeting of Senior Officials” will also take place where the General Director of the Directorate leads a delegation of the European Committee for Internal Affairs, Mr. Stefano Manservisi will provide detailed clarifications regarding the content of the roadmap. At this meeting, representatives of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo will present the achievements so far in the areas covered by the roadmap as well as the steps that the Government will undertake in order to expedite the process in ensuring the freedom of movement for the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo in European Union countries.
