The Government Commission on Missing Persons signed today the agreement to be equipped with the software ‘Ante mortem/Post mortem Database’ designed for managing, archiving and standardizing data on the missing persons.

This software is a donation of the International Committee of the Red Cross and will facilitate the identification of mortuary remains by matching ante mortem data with post mortem data.

On this event, the Chair of this Commission, Prenkë Gjetaj thanked the International Committee of the Red Cross for all their support provided in shedding light on the missing persons from the war in Kosovo.

“I believe that in cooperation with all partners we can manage to alleviate the pain of the families who continue living in anxiety” stated Chair Gjetaj.

On the other hand, the chief of mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Kosovo, Agim Gashi stressed that through this software, the Government Commission is undertaking important steps towards establishing the Central Register for the missing persons.

According the signed agreement, International Committee of the Red Cross will provide necessary training on entering the data and managing the database. This database will be a property of the Inter-Ministerial Commission on Missing Persons, which, through its institutional mechanisms, will be managing with this database, making in this way another important step towards implementing the Law for Missing Persons and that mandate of this Commission.
