Prishtina, 26 February 2008

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosova, Hashim Thaçi, met today afternoon in his cabinet with the head of UNMIK, Joachim Rucker and COMKFOR, General Xavier de Marnhac. The most recent developments in Kosova were on the focus of the meeting.
Prime Minister Thaçi thanked on this occasion NATO peacekeepers for their excellent job they have been doing along the Kosova Police Service and UNMIK Police. He said that over the last few days he has been in constant 24-hour touch and on the alert to manage the situation and circumstances in Kosova. “Things are moving on the right direction,” he said adding that we now are at the stage of consolidation following the declaration of independence and international recognition.
SRSG Joachim Rucker expressed UNMIK’s commitment to accomplish its mandate in the executive field, like police, customs, and justice without excluding the north of the country. “We are happy with the excellent work done by the KPS officers, UNMIK Police and KFOR over the last few days,” he said.
KFOR Commander, General Xavier de Marnhac, too emphasized that KFOR is ready to act in any situation, adding that their action is on the second plan as a result of professional work being carried out by the KPS officers in maintaining order and safety in the country.
Answering a question by the journalist on how long will the Government and UNMIK tolerate the visits in Kosova territory by Serb ministers, Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi said that Belgrade is slowly realizing that Kosova is an independent, sovereign and democratic state. He said that the Serb citizens of Kosova are convinced that only the institutions of Prishtina can do good things to help them integrate in the daily life and also in the institutions of Kosova.
