Prime Minister Thaçi participates in marking of tenth anniversary of Likoshan and Qirez Battle

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosova, Hashim Thaçi, participated today in marking of the tenth anniversary of the Likoshan and Qirez Battle fought on 28 February 1998.
 
Addressing thousands of citizens gathered to honor the fallen in the tenth anniversary of Likoshan and Qirez battle, Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi said on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Kosova that he was passing on the message of respect for our glorious past, when 10 years ago, united around the Legendary Commander Adem Jashari and together with NATO, we managed to once and forever take Serbia out of Kosova. “Now 10 years after the Likoshani Battle, Kosova is independent,” said the Prime Minister adding that the independent state of Kosova was not born on 17 February, it was born much earlier and its roots are deep in the resistance of the people of Kosova and martyrs, the contribution of each and every citizen in different ways and the best way they could.
On this occasion, Mr. Thaçi called on all the people to take pride in their contribution, stressing that now in the new circumstances we have new obligations; to develop the country, to build it up and open perspectives for its integration into the EU and NATO structures.
The Prime Minister stated that through respecting our western visions, through respecting our excellent partnership with the US, the EU countries and NATO, Kosova as the newest state in the world and with a strong international recognition, will be a country all of us can take pride in and that we will all feel well to live in our democratic state.
Also today, Prime Minister Thaçi paid homage and sent wreaths at the memorial graveyard complex in Gllanaselle village of Drenas municipality, where the martyrs of the nation Xhevë and Fehmi Lladrovci lie.

Thousands of citizens, families of martyrs and fellow fighters of the fallen, honored those who died in Likoshan and Qirez massacre ten years ago, when 20 civilians were killed and massacred and four martyrs gave their lives for freedom.
