Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo Hashim Thaçi’s speech on the presentation of the Electronic Government (e-Government) Strategy 2009-2015

October 31, 2008

Ladies and gentlemen,

I have the great pleasure to be with you for the presentation of the Electronic Government Strategy 2009-2015, a strategy of great importance for the improvement of public services for our citizens.

The Republic of Kosovo is a new country with a wide range of needs for its development. Our aim is to rapidly achieve our development priorities.

One of the priorities of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo is the Reform of Public Administration, with a special emphasis on e-Government as a part of the necessary reform process of Public Administration in Kosovo.

As part of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo’s 2008-2011 Programme, we planned e-Government as a priority policy to move us towards continual improvement of quality government services.

We are going to offer more efficient public services to citizens, and also to businesses, through Electronic Government or e-Government. With the use of e-Government, citizens and businesses, and the Government itself, will have; effective, efficient and fast service, several access points to these services no matter what the distance, an incentive to economic and social development, the opportunity for an improvement in skills, availability of public services at all times, a representation of the country’s achievements, etc.

As an active participant in regional and European development processes, the Republic of Kosovo will work to ensure that it is an important part of the region and of Europe in the fields of e-Government and Information Technology.

Through the Strategy of Electronic Government 2009-2015 and the Action Plan which will follow the approval of this Strategy, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo is reconfirming its readiness for a modern, effective and efficient public administration at the service of its citizens and an administration which is in step with European and global technological development trends.

Thank you for your attention.
