Prime Minister Thaçi chaired today’s regular Cabinet meeting, during which the legislative strategy, deriving from the 2009 Progress Report, was discussed.
“The challenges that derive from the Progress Report are very important to us and are part of the Work Plan of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo. They are the priorities of our joint efforts,” said Prime Minister Thaçi, in his opening remarks and he called on the ministers to present the current situation of their ministries and to commit themselves to accelerating the drafting of laws so that these laws can be submitted to the Assembly by June of this year.
The Prime Minister mentioned that there has been progress in deepening reforms and he advised policymakers to draft good laws and ensure that they cooperate with the respective committees of the Assembly. He stated, “We have incorporated the necessary laws deriving from last year’s Progress Report; and this requires cooperation with civil society, international mechanisms, various stakeholders and the media.”
Deputy Prime Minister Hajredin Kuçi reported the work of the Office of the Prime Minister, mentioning the following four draft laws of the OPM: the Draft Law on Missing Persons, the Draft Law on the Prevention and Fighting of Terrorism, the Draft Law On Amending the Law on Access to Official Documents and the Draft Law on the Prevention of Nuclear Materials. The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his confidence that these laws will be submitted to the Assembly soon, before June 1.
The Cabinet Ministers reported on their achievements regarding the legislation recommended by the 2009 Progress Report.
The Prime Minister welcomed, on behalf of the Government, the adoption of the Assembly Work Plan and he requested the speeding up of the procedures for the Amending of the Draft Law on Access to Official Documents, the Draft Law on the Freedom of Association with Non-Governmental Organizations, the Draft Law on Electricity, the Draft Law on the Central Bank, the Draft Law on the Judicial and Prosecutorial Council, the Draft Law on Public Prosecution, the Amending of the Draft Law on the Criminal Code and the Draft Law on Witness Protection.
The Cabinet endorsed the appointment of Mr. Ylber Hysa as the Government Coordinator of the implementation of the Comprehensive Strategy for the North of Kosovo.
Following a proposal by Deputy Prime Minister Kuçi, the Cabinet decided to set aside 50,000 euros for the organization of the KLA Epopee celebration. This celebration will take place on March 5, 6 and 7, under the auspices of Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi.
