Statement of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, red by Prime Minister Isa Mustafa, during the 10th Government Cabinet

January 26, 2015

Pristina, 26 January 2015

The Government of the Republic of Kosovo respects the right to protest as a right of expression of opinion and citizens concerns.

Government of the Republic of Kosovo considers that our country is facing many developmental problems of high unemployment and poverty, corruption and organized crime, which should be addressed with priority, therefore it considers the concerns of citizens. These concerns, the Government has placed on the agenda of priorities and will work harder to fulfil their commitment during its mandate.

The government considers very important building reports and mutual trust among all citizens of Kosovo and all members of ethnic and religious groups and democratic institutions and necessity to exercise constitutional sovereignty throughout the country.

The Republic of Kosovo with parliamentary democracy, governing institutions builds on the basis of free vote of the citizens, therefore a free vote decides on the legitimacy of these institutions. We consider unacceptable and unconstitutional any attempt to substitute Kosovo Assembly with Assemblies of squares.

Institutional solution is the only sustainable solution to all requests and needs of citizens. Government assures citizens that institutions of the Republic of Kosovo on the basis of free vote, will decide for its assets, in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo through a broad political institutional and social consensus.

Government of the Republic of Kosovo considers unacceptable and condemns the acts of vandalism of some protesters against police, government buildings, private property, diplomatic and above all physical violence against citizens of Kosovo. The Government considers that the behaviour manifested by some protesters do not reflect our democratic culture. The government requires from the protest organizers to be responsible for acts of vandalism.

Government of the Republic of Kosovo invites the citizens of Kosovo, for the maturity and political and civic maturity and tolerance. Individual statements cannot serve as a pretext to escalate the situation. Escalation of the situation will go to the benefit of enemies of Kosovo and harms its way for development and European integrations.

The Government strongly believe that, the orientation of the majority population towards the build and development of our state and Euro-Atlantic orientation remains steadfast in Kosovo.

Government of the Republic of Kosovo expresses its commitment to fully respect the rights and freedoms of citizens, but also expressed its determination not to allow anybody for political goals to damage public property and state institutions.

The government requires investigation and judicial bodies to take measures against all those who took advantage during the protest on Saturday to violate and damage the institutions of the country and their property. Requires from police and other institutions of the country based on the law and the Constitution to preserve these institutions and our citizens.

Government requires from political parties and their leaders, to realize their goals and political ambitions through free and democratic elections and not to use various pretexts, including premature statements of governors, to achieve political goals undemocratically.

The government will work with all parties in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, with civil society and various interest groups to address all their requirements in the legal and constitutional manner.

Government of the Republic of Kosovo will work with our strategic allies, the United States and European Union countries, to strengthen the sovereignty of Kosovo and its membership in as many international mechanisms, while the internal plan will be focused in economy and strengthening the rule of law.

Government of the Republic of Kosovo expresses its determination not to tolerate violating developments, violating institutions, public property and private property, and particularly the safety and lives of its citizens.
