Prishtina, 14 April 2009

Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi thanked the representatives of the Albanian Committee for Foreign Affairs for their visit to Kosovo and for the full support that the Albanian institutions and politics have continuously provided to the new state of Kosovo.

“The state of Kosovo is also a contribution of Albania, as is the freedom and independence,” said Prime Minister Thaçi.

“Albania’s membership in NATO was good news for all of us in Kosovo, and for all Albanians. Now, an independent Kosovo and Albania in NATO are guarantees of stability and cooperation in the region and promoters of a Euro-Atlantic spirit,” emphasized Prime Minister Thaçi.

“Our institutional cooperation will continue to grow in all fields. This mutual communication will continue in the future in a more advanced form and sense, therefore I want to thank you once more for your visit and of course; we commit ourselves, as the Government of Kosovo, for even closer and more productive and concrete cooperation in all fields of institutional and social life,” said Prime Minister Thaçi.

The head of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs of Albania, Preç Zogaj, said following the meeting that “we are available, as the Parliament of Albania and as the Committee on Foreign Affairs, to do everything in our power to support Kosovo in facing new challenges, in strengthening the roots of independence and in its journey towards Euro-Atlantic integration. With Prime Minister Thaçi, we once again shared our happiness on the membership of Albania in NATO, good news that was very gladly received in Kosovo.”

For her part, the Member of the Parliament and former Foreign Minister of Albania, Arta Dade, considered the visit of the Committee on Foreign Affairs to Kosovo as very important, even more so with the elections in Albania two months away.

“We expressed not only the political will in support of Prime Minister Thaçi, the Government of Kosovo and all authorities; but we gave assurances to continue, in a qualitative way, to bring our bilateral relations to higher levels,” said Member of Parliament Dade.
