In opening the meeting, Prime Minister Thaçi said he valued the progress made in the process of decentralization in the Republic of Kosovo. “Once again, I am here to show my full support for the work that has been done in the process of reforming local government,” said Prime Minister Thaçi, adding that this process is not only an obligation from the Ahtisaari plan but is a necessity now for integrating all citizens in Kosovar institutions and Kosovar society.
Prime Minister Thaçi congratulated the Inter-Ministerial group and in particular the Ministry for Local Government and the head of the International Civilian Office, Pieter Feith. “Decentralization is a sensitive process for every country, and this is true for Kosovo as well,” said Mr. Thaçi, adding that Kosovo’s institutions had approved legislation for improving the rights of communities and for protection of cultural heritage which would be rendered into practical action with the people of Kosovo. Prime Minister Thaçi went on to talk about the need for help from the international community, which has been available so far.
“The implementation of decentralization will not be an easy process, however through a collaborative approach with our people, we are determined to realize this project in its entirety,” said Prime Minister Thaçi, in requesting for the support of the International Civilian Office and Mr. Pieter Feith.
