Prishtina, 29 April 2008

The Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, said in a meeting on Tuesday with the leadership of the Kosovo University Clinic Center (QKUK) that the healthcare sector will be a priority of the Government of Kosovo and that he will be seriously involved in improving the situation at this important sector of our society.
During his visit to QKUK, Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi was accompanied by Health Minister, Alush Gashi.
During the meeting with the chairmanship of the QKU clinics, Prime Minister Thaçi expressed his concern over the current situation prevailing at the health sector in Kosovo.
“Dignity of the health employees should reach the level it deserves; the competencies of the heads of clinics should be increased through the decentralization process and through advancing the functioning of the health institutions. This system must guarantee quality in health services and measurable and tangible reforms,” said Prime Minister Thaçi.
The Prime Minister assessed that the money allocated for the health sector, especially for medicaments (11 million Euros) is not a lot, but it needs to be properly managed and requires responsibility of the managers in planning for it. “The health sector requires qualitative improvements and we will do everything possible to make it respectable and descent for our people. It is regrettable when a sick patient comes and leaves the clinic sicker,” said the Prime Minister of the Government of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi.
“The Government has allocated financial means and that only for medicaments there have been over 1 million Euros spent, and yet, there are no sufficient medicaments. The defects need to be figured out and overcome. There has been money allocated for hygiene, and the hygiene is very low now. There will be money allocated for the food of the patients, because the current food is very poor,” said Prime Minister Thaçi.
Prime Minister Thaçi also expressed the serious commitment of the Government to improve the situation prevailing at our health sector. The Kosovo health sector is one of the main priorities of the Government of Kosovo and it will invest and is investing, more than what has been invested in the past in this sector.
Prime Minister Thaçi expressed his belief that the health sector and the QKUK have qualified staff to overcome the current challenged and to advance and improve the Kosovo health care.
The heads of the QKUK Clinics called for more work in improving the regular supply with medicaments and other expenditures. They emphasized the need for reforming the health care system, ensure qualified staff and ensure proper space for the normal functioning of the QKUK clinics.
