As part of his official visit to United States of America, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, officially received during a meeting today in New York with the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, Dr. Surapong Tovichakchaikul, the recognition of the state of Kosovo by Thailand.
The Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand confirmed to the Prime Minister of Kosovo that the Government of Thailand took a decision to recognize Kosovo on 24 September 2013.
According to the Thailand Deputy Prime Minister the decision was taken out of respect and in sign of support for the citizens and the state of Kosovo.
During the meeting there was discussion on the recent developments in Kosovo and Thailand with a focus on areas where the two states can cooperate.
On behalf of the Government and the people of Kosovo, Prime Minister Thaçi thanked Deputy Prime Minister Tovichakchaikul for the recognition of Kosovo by Thailand.
Prime Minister Thaçi and Deputy Prime Minister Tovichakchaikul agreed to also officially start bilateral diplomatic relations between the two states.
Following the establishment of diplomatic relations, both governments will organize more frequent bilateral meetings and will identify areas of joint interest and cooperation.
