Prishtina, 5 June 2013

Today, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi met the ambassadors of the European Union who are accredited in Kosovo, and he informed them about the process of implementing the agreement reached on April 19 in Brussels, between Kosovo and Serbia.

Prime Minister Thaçi explained that after approving the implementation plan, the Government has approved the law on the ratification of the agreement on normalizing relations with Serbia and has sent it to the Assembly for processing.

Prime Minister Thaçi informed the ambassadors about the establishment of a working group for the implementation of the April 19Agreement and he said that he had authorized Deputy Prime Minister Edita Tahiri to coordinate this process.

“The groups are in Brussels and I believe that there will be a positive outcome,” said Prime Minister Thaçi.

Thanking the ambassadors for their support, Prime Minister Thaçi said he was convinced that there would be sufficient reasons on the ground for Kosovo, on June 28, to be granted negotiations for a Stabilization and Association Agreement, as the first step on the long path toward EU membership.

“It is important that the SAA be substantial and that the process finish with Kosovo as an equal member of the EU,” said Prime Minister Thaçi.

Prime Minister Thaçi assured the EU ambassadors that the implementation of the agreement would not be stalled or delayed by Kosovo, but added that he hoped Serbia shared the same commitment.

“I hope that Serbia shares the same commitment, although its recent actions, such as that at the Ohrid Conference are direct proof that Serbia is still not comfortable with the substance and spirit of the agreement,” said Prime Minister Thaçi.
