The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Hashim Thaçi, held a meeting today with a delegation from the European Parliament visiting Kosovo.
In a press conference following the meeting, Prime Minister Thaçi said that he discussed with Mrs. Pack about the latest developments in Kosovo and about the first year of Kosovo as an independent, sovereign and democratic state.
“The role of Euro-parliamentarian Pack has always been remarkable and supportive for Kosovo; its democratic order, its process of economic reform and for the full and affirmative respect for all minority rights and the integration of all communities in the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, including Serbs; who we encourage to work more in this regard and we also expect more good will from their leadership,” said Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi, following a meeting he had with the European Parliament delegation, headed by the member of the European Parliament, Mrs. Doris Pack.
“I informed the parliamentarian group that Kosovo has committed itself to moving forward. Last year we received the Progress Report from the European Commission. We are going to have the feasibility study carried out. The government will implement all of the obligations within its authority and for Kosovo; there will be good news from Brussels and the opening of a European perspective; therefore Kosovo will be part of NATO and the European Union,” said Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi.
For her part, Mrs. Doris Pack acknowledged the progress made by the government and by the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo.
“I want to say that there is progress, but there is a lot more to do,” said Pack, adding that the decentralization process is necessary and that the government has began to work on that process.
Euro-parliamentarian Pack said that Belgrade as well should show good will in order to allow Kosovar Serbs to be fully involved in the decentralization process.
“I also want to point out that the issue of minorities is very important, however, the will of this government should also be supported by the other side, I mean Belgrade, in order to move ahead, because we are talking about Kosovar citizens, regardless if they are Albanians, Serbs, Ashkalis or Roma, “said Mrs. Doris Pack, head of the European Parliament Delegation.
