Prishtina, 11.08.2013

During a visit to Ferizaj municipality, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi responded to media questions regarding the process of inter-state negotiations between Kosovo and Serbia, and respectively, the telecommunications agreement.

The following is the statement made by Prime Minister Thaçi:

“I think Belgrade is still in a dilemma about accepting the agreement on telecommunications and energy, whereas for Prishtina and the European Union, this issue is closed. Thus I hope that in the coming days, Belgrade will be convinced to accept the agreement which is a necessary and essential European standard to move processes forward.

But, it is not the first time that Belgrade has sought to delay the process, especially implementation. Implementation is our key challenge. We must all work hard, but I am informed that the European Union is in regular contact with the Belgrade authorities, so that an agreement is reached as quickly as possible, and so I hope it will be finalized soon. ”

In response to questions about the IBM agreement, he said –

Prime Minister Thaçi: “Everything has been clarified with regard to the IBM agreement, and also for the April 19 agreement, with regard to all technical and professional aspects.  The agreements are in full accordance with the Constitution and Laws of Kosovo and everything permitted by the Constitution is acceptable.

But it is very important to work harder regarding implementation. Implementation continues in various segments and I hope that gradually an acceptable environment will be created for all citizens to work together in the north, so that we can arrange free elections on November 3, in the entire territory, so that all citizens participate regardless of ethnic difference, including Serbs in the north.

Allow me today through you to repeat a message about their preparation for elections, the registration of political parties, civic initiatives and participation in elections.

Their participation in elections opens a new chapter, the start of building democracy in that part of Kosovo and then the start of economic investment, in order to create a shared life.

Participation in elections is essential for a secure developmental and democratic future and I am optimistic that this will occur in the north”.
