The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, during a meeting with U.S. students informed them about the achievements of the state of Kosovo and current political developments. At the meeting, special emphasis was placed on the excellent state of relations between the state of Kosovo and the United States.
A discussion was also held regarding the process of negotiations between Kosovo and Serbia during the last 15 years, and the role played by Mr. Thaci.
According to the Prime Minister these processes of negotiation were difficult, but in the service of democracy and European values.
In this context, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the negotiation process in Rambouillet and Paris, which led to NATO’s military intervention and the liberation of Kosovo, followed by the Vienna talks that led to the Ahtisaari package and the declaration of independence, and by meetings that were held recently in Brussels, which resulted in reaching an agreement to normalize relations between the two countries, the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Serbia, and to accelerate the process of integration into European and Euro-Atlantic structures.
The American students of the Arcadia University in the State of Pennsylvania expressed their gratitude for the warm reception by Prime Minister Hashim Thaci and their interest in inter-ethnic relations in Kosovo.
The Prime Minister, while answering their questions, stated that “Kosovo is the state of all its citizens, regardless of their ethnicity, religion or race, and for this reason all communities in Kosovo enjoy affirmative rights, which are expressed through representation in the Assembly, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and all other institutions”.
