Prime Minister of Republic of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa, participated in the inauguration of the functioning of the bifurcation in Nerodime, where the World Environment Day was marked as well.

The event was attended by ministers, MPs, Mayor of the Municipality of Ferizaj and many citizens and environmentalists from Ferizaj and beyond.

Prime Minister Mustafa said that the World Environment Day speaks of raising awareness of humanity for taking care of the planet and the environment, as well as taking responsibility for the environment.

“Even the motto of this day tells us to take care of our country, to take care of our planet and take responsibility for it. It is people’s day as well because taking positive measures for improving the planet is in people’s will and on their own responsibility,” said the Prime Minister.

Further, Prime Minister Mustafa said that Nerodime bifurcation is a very special monument of Kosovo.

“The division of the river into two rivers, which then flow in two different seas, the Aegean and the Black Sea; it is a special phenomenon which happens in Kosovo. We want to cultivate it, maintain it properly, develop tourism, create conditions so people can come and visit it because it really deserves visits and attention,” he added, by thanking the Municipality, the Ministry and the European Commission for investments.

Prime Minister Mustafa further said that these investments must be recovered now and their value must be given.

“We should work and give a good example of how we should take care of the environment in order to make it more convenient for people, for our citizens, for our children and for our future,” said Prime Minister Isa Mustafa.

Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning, Ferid Agani, said that the World Environment Day is a special date for Kosovo because it is the day when you can display all environmental values of Kosovo, values listed even in global dimensions and which should be institutionally protected.

Minister Agani spoke about the fact that many of these values are threatened as a result of various degrading processes, expressing full commitment of the Government of Kosovo to work even more on preventing and stopping these degradations and protecting these values.

The Minister further spoke about many global environmental issues that need urgent attention, such as climate change, environmental security and sustainable environmental development.

Mayor of municipality of Ferizaj, Muharrem Sfarqa, said that functioning of Nerodime Bifurcation is a very important event for Ferizaj and Kosovo, because it sets this rare phenomenon on a good path to play its role of natural resources for tourism.

Sfarqa said that functioning of Bifurcation represents one of the most significant decisions of the Government on helping Ferizaj to achieve its development goals.

He further said that the Municipality of Ferizaj, with the support of the Government of Kosovo and international financial institutions, is on the eve of launching major development investments.

“These investments are expected to significantly improve the condition of infrastructure and the situation of citizens of Ferizaj municipality and its villages,” said Sfarqa. He also mentioned the beginning of construction of the Regional Hospital in Ferizaj, solution of the railway problem, expansion of national roads and entrances and exits of Ferizaj and investments in Lepenci Hydro-system that will eventually solve the problems of irrigation and drinking water in Ferizaj.
