Prime Minister Kurti’s address at the 149th meeting of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo

July 5, 2023

Prishtina, 5 July, 2023

Dear Ministers and Deputy Ministers,
Dear citizens,

As every time when summer dawns, Kosovo welcomes you with open arms, with a heart full of longing, our dearest who are far away from us.

Dear expats,

Welcome to your home. Your return to your homeland, to your homes in Kosovo, marks a special moment for all of us, as it expresses the eternal bond that transcends borders and time. Let’s experience the beauty of nature and our cultural heritage together this year. Let’s connect the new generations with their land and let’s learn from the older ones.

In our language, there are two wonderful words for the birthplace: motherland and fatherland, mother’s and father’s land. Therefore, your connection with Kosovo is very deep. In this regard, allow me to thank you for your commitment to preserve our traditions, your important role for the economic, social and political development of Kosovo.

Our rapid march towards the development and strengthening of the country is easier when we know in our minds that we have your support. Therefore, your contribution is felt in all sectors of the country and we are infinitely grateful for your commitment and continued role for the development of the country.

As you may know, we have started the adjustment, expansion and paving of the Prishtina-Podujeva road. This is not a road only for the citizens of Llapi, but this is actually the road of emigrants.

Very soon, when you pass from Merdarja to Pristina, and through your houses all over the country, the road will be just one of the things that you will see how it can be done right here, just like in the places where you live and work.

To ensure that your time in your homeland will be truly enjoyable, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora has drawn up a long list of activities especially dedicated to you, including sports, culture and young intergenerational bonding with their country through summer camps, cultural, artistic and natural experiences.

In the following week, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, through the Enjoy Kosovo platform, will provide you with all the instructions and information related to these activities.

Welcome home dear countrymen, welcome to your country. Let this summer be a time of our togetherness.

With pleasure, we welcome you back to Kosovo and I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible.

Today we called this special meeting with only two points and one of them is of great importance, in accordance with our promise, and as we warned at the beginning of this year, we are doing the pension reform.

The Government of Kosovo is building a pension system, solidary and equal, which guarantees stable pensions and takes care of pensioners.

This scheme eliminates difference and marginalization, and guarantees access to social goods for all. This should be done by the Republic and we are doing this together.

Thank you!
