After the visit to the “Mother Teresa” Humanitarian and Charity Association at the beginning of the week, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu, made the next visit to the Non-Governmental Organizations, beneficiaries of support programs from the Government at the Organization for Children without Parental Care (OFAP), where he met OFAP staff, some of the host families along with some of the children who have been hosted by these families.
During this visit, Prime Minister Kurti thanked OFAP, for the work and commitment to their mission, expressing his gratitude for the provision of preparation and training services for families for family housing, as well as parenting counseling and training.
Among other things, the Prime Minister emphasized that the decision of the Minister of Justice dated June 1, 2023 to increase the support payment for children who are in family housing – in the amount of 200,000 euros per year is another indicator that reflects our commitment as a Government to protect children without parental care and to strengthen the concept of the host family.
Through this decision, the regular monthly payment for children sheltered within the family has increased from 100 to 150 euros, while for children sheltered outside the biological family, the regular monthly payment has increased from 250 to 350 euros, and from 350 to 450 euro, the payment for disabled children housed outside the biological family has increased.
Also, the initial payment of 75 euros for children sheltered outside the biological family and children with disabilities sheltered outside the biological family has increased to 100 euros, much of which is taken in the case of the child’s accommodation in the host family.
It was also underlined the importance of the adoption of the Law on Social and Family Services at the 159th meeting of the Government, which was held this week, through which services are strengthened and the needs of social work centers are addressed, as well as the prioritization and addressing of children in the Civil Code, which awaits approval in the Assembly.
Meanwhile, the Director of OFAP, Ibadete Krasniqi, grateful for the visit, expressed gratitude for the Government’s support for Non-Governmental Organizations that provide Social Services. Next, the work and commitment of host families, children without parental care and the way of training for these families and children were presented.
OFAP was created as a successor of the Italian organization “Amici dei Bambini” which was in Kosovo from 1999 to January 2016.
