Prishtina, 16 February 2009

One day before her first birthday, Pavarësi Sopa, at her home in Sllovi, Lipjan, hosted Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi. Pavarësi was born last year, just five minutes after Prime Minister Thaçi had presented the Declaration of the Independence of Kosovo; making her the first baby born in the new state.

Now, on the first anniversary of her birth, the little girl with the name Pavarësi, hosted Prime Minister Thaçi to receive his congratulations on her birthday.

Having celebrated at the home of the parents of Pavarësi, Xhevdet and Lumturije Sopa, Prime Minister Thaçi, after wrapping her in a scarf and putting a hat on her with the symbols of the state of Kosovo, emphasized that he came to congratulate her and to wish good health and a long life to the first child of an independent Kosovo; a sovereign and democratic state; who symbolically has the name Pavarësi.

“All our struggles and those of our generations, who have given so much for this country, have been made in order to make this a healthy and functional state, a state in which all children can grow up like all happy children in the world, so I am happy that your and our Pavarësi will grow up and be educated to modern standards. To have a happy life, with much love, joy and solidarity and for each of us to feel proud and to celebrate this year’s anniversary in a dignified manner as we celebrated the Declaration last year,” said Prime Minister Thaçi.

After visiting the only child of the Sopa couple, Prime Minister Thaçi delivered a message from their garden about the future of the country and the manner in which the first anniversary of statehood will be celebrated.

Prime Minister Thaçi invited all the citizens of Kosovo, regardless of ethnic differences, to celebrate with dignity and pride.

“This was a historic and successful year for Kosovo. A year of the great celebration of this anniversary, of the successes of the people and the institutions of Kosovo, and support across the world, from Washington, Brussels and NATO,” said Prime Minister Thaçi.
“Kosovo has a secure future, and it should be celebrated with dignity and pride. We will observe it according to the highest state protocol, but there will also be a popular celebration,” said Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi.

With respect to the warnings from Serbia that the deputies of this state, on February 17th, the day of the celebration of the anniversary of Kosovo’s independence, will come to hold a session in the north of Kosovo, Prime Minister Thaçi said that Kosovo had its own agenda for celebrating and that no one could change it, meanwhile he expressed his disappointment at the politics of Belgrade’s leaders, who are still influenced by the mentality of celebrating continual defeats.

“No one can destabilize Kosovo. We will have a peaceful and dignified celebration, proud and with messages which are gentle, with good-will for living together and building a multi-ethnic society. The world is watching us and we will celebrate as it is befitting of us,” said Prime Minister Thaçi, adding that next year, on the second anniversary of independence, he expects Kosovo to be part of the IMF and the World Bank, with more recognitions, more economic development, better social welfare, more progress and closer to the European Union.

“Kosovo is the homeland of all of its citizens with equal rights for all,” said the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, during his visit to the family of Pavarësi.
