Prishtina, 11 October 2010
Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi and the founding rector of the Prizren Public University, Rolland Munch, symbolically handed over the first student IDs to six students from different departments of this institution.
In an address to the students, teachers and the people of Prizren gathered on the occasion, Prime Minister Thaçi said that we all have had dreams and we are all working to make them come true. Today, one of our biggest dreams is coming true with the opening of the second public university in Kosovo, the Prizren University, he said. “This university will be a model in the region, it will be open for all the students who want to study here, not only from Kosovo but from the entire region, from every corner of our state, from Tirana, from Prishtina, Presheva, Ulqin and from wherever Albanians live,” said Mr. Thaçi.
“We are here today to inaugurate the opening of a university in which we all have invested, and above all this university is future oriented, and it represents an investment in our youth, so that they take over leading of the country towards changes for the better in Prizren and the Republic of Kosovo. I want to believe that with the potential, energy and creativity that you have, one of you will one day win the Nobel Prize. You will always have my support,” promised Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi
Education Minister Enver Hoxhaj also welcomed the participants in the ceremony and said that he was honored to hand over the first student grade books of the Prizren University. “In 2007 there were capacities to enroll only seven thousand students, while today we have capacities for 22 thousand students,” said Minister Hoxhaj who went on to say that the opening of the Prizren Public University is a project personally attributed to the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Mr. Hashim Thaçi.
The start of work at the Prizren University was also greeted by the mayor of the town, Mr. Ramadan Muja.
