Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi meets Democratic Union for Integration party leader, Ali Ahmeti

Hashim Thaçi, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo Government, today met the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) (Bashkimi Demokratik për Integrim, BDI) party leader, Ali Ahmeti,who is visiting Kosovo.The meeting focused on collaboration between Kosovo and Macedonia as well as current developments in Kosovo.

Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi and the DUI leader, Ali Ahmeti, said they considered collaboration between the two countries to be good and recognized Macedonia’s active and constructive role during the entire process following the declaration of independence. The Prime Minister thanked Mr. Ahmeti for his work towards Macedonia’s recognition of Kosovo.

Prime MinisterThaçi said that he was optimistic about relations reaching embassy level in Skopje and Prishtina and that this collaboration is in the interests of regional stability and Euro-Atlantic integration.

“Our hope for Macedonian elections is for them to be free, fair and democratic,” said Prime Minister Thaçi.

Ali Ahmeti, the leader of the DUI, the party in power in Macedonia, said that he had told the Kosovar Prime Minister about a number of initiatives undertaken for improvement of relations between Kosovo and Macedonia. Mr. Ali Ahmeti assured Prime Minister Thaçi of cooperation between the two countries in all fields; particularly in the areas of road infrastructure, energy, the economy, water supply and other sectors.
