Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi meets a delegation from the Kosovo Workers’ Union, led by its president, Haxhi Arifi

“We discussed, as partners, about the future priorities of the Government, of the unions, and their implementation but also about the concerns of the Kosovar employees. We will continue cooperation and collaboration in the future also at the Ministerial level. We have agreed to form a working group to promote the dialogue between the Government of Kosovo and Kosovo’s Independent Workers Unions,” said Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi.
 
“We also agreed to functionalize the Economic and Social Council of Kosovo and to intensify work on ensuring that the 20% share from the privatization process is given back to the employees,” said Mr. Thaçi, adding that during the meeting with the representatives of the workers’ union, there was also discussion on adoption of the necessary legislation. In addition, there was discussion on how to assess working experience from 1990 until 1999.
 
In today’s meeting, all the opportunities were considered for implementing the priorities that can be implemented now, having in mind the current conditions and the situation with regards to legislation and our capacities within the framework of the collective contract.
 
Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi assessed the meeting with the representatives of the Kosovo workers’ union as productive and pointed out that this cooperation will continue to benefit all the Kosovar employees.
 
For his part, the head of Kosovo’s Independent Trade Union, Haxhi Arifi, said after the meeting with Prime Minister Thaçi:
 
“I share the opinion of Prime Minister Thaçi on the topics discussed. We are open for dialogue and I believe that through work we will succeed. With cooperation and dialogue and if we have everything that the Prime Minister mentioned; the work will move ahead bringing positive results for the Kosovar employees.”
 
Further on Mr. Arifi added that “The cooperation and coordination of works, the formation of these working groups, the functionalizing of the tripartite social and economic council, Government – Workers’ Union – Chamber of Commerce and a partnership of these bodies will help advance the issue and resolve problems that we as a workers’ union and also the Government are facing.”
 
In the end, the head of the Independent Workers’ Union of Kosovo, Haxhi Arifi, thanked the Government and Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi for increasing the salaries of civil servants and pensioners.
 
“With a joint effort, cooperation and also with a coordination of works; we will make more progress to the benefit of the population and the employees of Kosovo,” said Mr. Arifi.
