Government of Republic of Kosovo holds regular meeting

Chaired by Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo held its 16th regular meeting today. Initially, Mr. Thaçi briefed his cabinet on the important visit that Barroso and Fule paid Kosovo. Likewise, Prime Minister Thaçi assessed as of special welcome the forthcoming visit to Kosovo by Baroness Ashton at the end of this week. “These high level visits by the EU leaders confirm the European perspective of Kosovo and the European integration agenda of the Government of Kosovo,” said Prime Minister Thaçi in his opening remarks in today’s Government meeting. 

The Government approved today the Draft Law on Legislation Initiatives which sets the rules and procedures for legislation initiatives by relevant authorities, including the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Assembly members, the Government and at least ten thousand citizens with the right to vote. The draft law also stipulates the rules and procedures for a legislative initiative by the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo and by the citizens. 

The Government decided to take out of the Legislation Strategy 2011 the Draft Law on Amending and Supplementing the Law on Identification Cards and proposed inclusion in this strategy of the Law No. 03/L-171 on the Kosovo Diaspora. With the establishment of the Ministry for Diaspora, it was asked for the necessary legislative changes to be made in order for the functioning and the operationalization of this ministry. 

The Government approved a proposal by the Commission on selection of a member and the chairman of the Kosovo Pension Savings Trust Board: Mr. Ejup Qerimi was chosen as member of the board and Mr. Ymer Havolli as chairman of the Kosovo Pension Savings Trust Board.

The Government approved a proposal for the launch of procedures for the election of a board member of the Independent Commission for Mines and Minerals and appointed Basri Rrahmani as principal inspector and approved the proposal for the appointment of Veton Ferizi as permanent secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. 

The Government also approved a proposal for the staff structure in the cabinet of the Deputy Prime Minister, in line with Regulation No. 02/2011 on the scope of administrative responsibilities of the Office of Prime Minister and ministries. 

The Government also decided on the expropriation of immovable properties in the public interest registered in cadastral parcels No. 257, 259, 260, 261 and 382, in a surface of 0.39.99 ha, located in the cadastral zone of Hajvalia. 

The Government of Kosovo allocated €20,000 in assistance to Santa Lucia state to deal with consequences of recent floods.
