At the end of her official visit to the Republic of Albania, the Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign Policy and National Security of the Republic of Kosovo, Ms. Edita Tahiri met with the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Albania Ms. Jozefina Topalli.
In the meeting, they discussed deepening cooperation between the two countries with special emphasis on foreign policy, diplomacy and national security.
The Speaker of the Albanian Parliament, Ms. Jozefina Topalli, congratulated Ms. Edita Tahiri on her new position as Deputy Prime Minister and as the leader of technical dialogue and said that her appointment to this post was very appropriate, considering her long experience in politics and advanced academic level.
Later Ms. Topalli said that the Parliament of Albania supports the start of dialogue between the Republic of Kosovo and Serbia, and this will help in resolving technical issues, making easier the lives of citizens of the two countries, as two independent and sovereign states. She emphasized that Kosovo’s independence is irreversible and that the integrity of its borders are inviolable.
Deputy Prime Minister Tahiri, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, thanked the Republic of Albania for the support it has given to Kosovo’s independence and the development of the new state. She praised the significant contribution of the Parliamentary Speaker Ms. Topalli to close cooperation between the two countries and especially her commitment to increasing recognition for the independent state of Kosovo.
Talking about the technical dialogue which has started between the Republic of Kosovo and Serbia, Ms. Edita Tahiri said that Kosova entered into this dialogue to realize its international obligations deriving from the UN Resolution and through this, the Republic of Kosovo its exercising its sovereignty in international relations. She said that this dialogue will remain of a technical character and that it is extremely important that it has the full support of the US, EU and UN.
At the end of the meeting, they agreed that technical dialogue is a chance to improve the lives of the citizens of Kosovo and the region. This dialogue will contribute directly toward good neighborliness and facilitate Kosovo’s faster integration into the European Union, NATO, and beyond. They promised to deepen cooperation based on joint interests for both countries.
