On the International Day of Missing Persons, Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Justice, Hajredin Kuçi, met with the representatives of the Coordination Council of the Association of the Families of the Missing Persons.
Following the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Kuçi said that they will be even more committed as individuals and Government to resolve the fate of the missing persons.
“Today is the International Day of Missing Persons and Kosovo has a strong reason to mark this day and has a reason to mark this day in a different way, so that we step up our commitments as Government and as individuals and also the international commitment and pressure on Serbia to resolve the fate of the persons missing in their families, therefore I call this an ongoing pain. We also discussed about the possibilities of the Government of Kosovo and I especially pointed out our commitment to the Law on Missing Persons which is at the second reading at the Assembly of Kosovo and I expect it to be approved during the week, and it will provide for a special status for the organization of the families of missing persons. I pointed out that the Law on Families of Martyrs, War Veterans and Invalids also includes the families of the missing, which also get some material benefits and institutional care,” said Deputy Prime Minister Kuçi.
On the other hand, the head of the Coordination Council of the Association of the Families of the Missing Persons, Haki Kosumi, considered the meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Kuçi as the most important one he has had so far with the representatives of the Kosovo institutions.
“Today we had the most important meeting with the representatives of our institutions and from the promises we got from the Deputy Prime Minister we got the best wishes for the holy day of Bayram and for the 30th of August. We hope that the promises will be delivered within the possibilities allowed by the law, as we do not ask for anything outside the law, but we want to realize one of our basic rights, to know about the fate of the people we have been looking for over the last 12 years,” said Mr. Kosumi.
Deputy Prime Minister Kuçi also said that they agreed with the Coordination Council to remove the pictures in front of the Assembly of Kosovo, because, according to him, the Government of Kosovo will finance their relocation in another place in Prishtina, where they would be more visible along building of a memorial for the missing persons.
