Deputy Prime Minister Hajredin Kuçi: We will continue implementation of the standards and democratic criteria for integration, as soon as possible, into the EU

A delegation from the Government of the Republic of Kosovo; led by Deputy Prime Minister Hajredin Kuçi, and including Ministers Ahmet Shala and Lutfi Zharku as well as Prime Minister Thaçi’s adviser, Driton Qehaja; is making an official visit to Brussels.

During today’s visit, the delegation held meetings with Commissioner David O’Sullivan from the General Directorate for Trade in the European Commission, as well as with Mr. Pierre Mirel, Director for the Western Balkans in the European Commission.

In these meetings, the delegation from the Government of the Republic of Kosovo discussed issues relating to the Republic of Kosovo’s membership in the World Trade Organization, the International Monetary Fund and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, Hajredin Kuçi, in meetings with senior officers with the European Commission; thanked them for the continuing comprehensive support that the European Commission has given to Kosovo. In these meetings, Mr. Kuçi stressed the intensifying of cooperation, with a special emphasis on the support of the European Commission in the advancement of the institutions of Kosovo whose primary objective is integration into the European Union.
 
Deputy Prime Minister Kuçi stressed, in these meetings, that the Government of the Republic of Kosovo will continue its determination through the Agency for Development Coordination and European Integration for the fulfillment of EU standards, which are for the betterment of the European future of the democratic state of Kosovo.
 
Other topics for discussion included issues related to CEFTA and the blockades in the field of trade, as well as the international representation of Kosovo in different regional and multi-lateral organizations.
 
Likewise, the Feasibility Report on Kosovo which is to be published in autumn was an important theme in the meetings.
 
Deputy Prime Minister Kuçi emphasized that the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, which as a basic concept for their work have good governance; through the work and concrete determination in the implementation of standards and democratic criteria, through investments in all of the sectors of Kosovo; have demonstrated political will to surpass the challenges that may confront Kosovo on its unstoppable path towards European integration.
 
Meanwhile, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Ahmet Shala, had a meeting with Antonio de Lecea, the Director of International Economic and Financial Affairs in the European Commission. In this meeting, the global financial crisis was discussed as well as the influence it may have on Kosovo, on Europe, and on the world.
