Deputy Prime Minister Edita Tahiri holds numerous meetings in Ankara and Istanbul

Following her meetings at the Government of Turkey, the Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign Policy and National Security of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Edita Tahiri, continued her meetings’ agenda in Ankara and Istanbul, including her meeting with the Turkish President of the Parliament, the associations of Albanians in Turkey and also held a lecture at the prestigious Tepav Institute of the Sabanci University. 

At the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey, Deputy Prime Minister Edita Tahiri met with the Head of the Parliamentary Group for Friendship between Kosovo and Turkey, Mrs. Mustafa Kemal Şerbetçioğlu and also had a discussion with members of this group, amongst whom there were some MPs with Albanian descent,  Gülay Dalyan and Rifat Sait.

Advancing of friendship between the state of Kosovo and Turkey was discussed during the meeting along the roles of two parliaments in the interstate cooperation. Deputy Prime Minister Tahiri reiterated in the meeting the commitment of the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo to advance cooperation between the two countries in every field. 

She also asked for the engagement of the Turkish Parliament in increasing the number of recognitions of Kosovo and in attaining its membership in international parliamentary organizations. On his part, Mr. Mustafa Kemal Şerbetçioğlu said that the group of MPs he is chairing is also composed of members of Albanian descent and said that the support for Kosovo will further intensify in the future. 

Deputy Prime Minister Tahiri also held a lecture at the economic policy institute TEPAV in Ankara and the Sabanci University in Istanbul under the topic: “The journey of Kosovo towards Euro-Atlantic integrations,” namely the “Euro-Atlantic Vision of Kosovo.” In this lecture, Mrs. Tahiri spoke about the Euro-Atlantic vision of the state of Kosovo, for its strategic state-building policies and for its achievements in advancing democracy, good governance and economic development. 

Amongst other things she said that “Kosovo as the youngest European state is known for its economic and touristic attraction, for its Euro-Atlantic culture and its peaceful and stabilizing image in the region.”

A part of the lecture by Mrs. Tahiri focused on the relations between Kosovo and Turkey assessing that the cooperation between the two countries is at the highest level and expressed the engagement of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo to intensify cooperation with Turkey at all fields of mutual interest. 

During her stay in Istanbul, Deputy Prime Minister Tahiri also had a meeting with the leaders of the associations of our compatriots living in Istanbul organized by Kosovo’s Embassy in Turkey, where the Kosovo Ambassador, Bekim Sejdiu, and the MP of Albanian descent, Gülay Dalyan, also participated.

Mrs. Tahiri briefed the participants in the meeting on the outcome of meetings with Turkish Government officials, Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag and Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and then also dwelled on the recent political developments in Kosovo and on its state-building challenges. 

She also reiterated the recent achievements by the state of Kosovo and thanked the Kosovo Diaspora in Turkey for their role in support of the economic development of Kosovo by investing and by bringing investors to Kosovo. 

On behalf of the Government of Kosovo, she expressed her highest appreciations for the good image that Albanians enjoy in Turkey by proving authentic values highly acknowledged by the Turkish people and state. 

As a sign of honor for Deputy Prime Minister Edita Tahiri and the delegation of the Kosovo Government, the Albanian Brotherhood Association, headed by Mr. Halil Metin, hosted a dinner, and MP Gülay Dalyan and Deputy Foreign Minister of Albania Edith Harxhi and Ambassador Sejdiu and the Albanian Consul in Istanbul, Ermal Muça were amongst the participants.
