Brussels, 20 October 2016

Today, on 20 October 2016 was held a tripartite meeting to assess the situation in the implementation of the Brussels dialogue agreements, with particular emphasis on the blockade that Serbia made to the agreement on telephone code.

On this occasion, Minister Tahiri said that Brussels dialogue has provided tangible results in these years on its own way, but this period is characterized by tensions especially since Serbia blocked the agreement on telephone code, and arbitrary arrest by the senior Kosovo Police, Nehat Thaçi, who is still held in custody. On this occasion, Minister Tahiri asked the EU to continue with its efforts to unblock the implementation of the agreement on telephone code and independence of KOSTT, because they are agreements being discussed now five years and is not achieved the result of the agreement.

Minister Tahiri also reiterated the request to release Mr. Nehat Thaçi saying that Serbia cannot and does not have jurisdiction over the citizens of Kosovo and Serbia’s behaviour is damaging the Brussels dialogue process itsel.

The Serbian side tried to raise at the meeting the issue of Trepça Law adopted by the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo. Minister Tahiri categorically rejected the Serbian tendency to talk about this subject, because Trepça is an asset and property of Kosovo and as such we do not talk to anyone, said Minister Tahiri.

Tahiri also said that it is not discussed and never will be discussed in the dialogue. She assured that Kosovo will not accept opening and internal discussion topics for which decides the state of Kosovo only. She also said that a party cannot impose the opening of topics in the dialogue because to do so is required the consent of both parties, since, as this is the basic principle of dialogue in Brussels which is based on respect of jurisdictions of both states.

At the end of the meeting, Minister Tahiri reminded the Serbian side that are wasteful tendencies of their diplomacy in Brussels on the issue of Trepça, since twenty-three member states of the EU have recognized Kosovo and that Kosovo has entered into a contractual agreement with the EU by signing the Stabilization and Association Agreement.
