The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, attended the opening ceremony of the Pride Week, within which the Pride Parade will be held for the first time in Kosovo.
Prime Minister Haradinaj, on this occasion, once again expressed the commitment of Kosovo institutions to protect the rights of this community. The prime minister said that the organization of the Pride Parade for the first time shows the commitment that Kosovo has to respect the rights of the LGBTI community.
“This means a lot also for the specifications of our country, our society, but it also proves our courage, both civic and social, as well as institutional, that we, under the Constitution, will respect the rights of all regardless, and so all human freedoms are respected. Kosovo is ready to respect the rights of the LGBTI community in Kosovo, and at the same time to enable human equality and freedoms, freedom of choice, based on the determination of each and every one” said Prime Minister Haradinaj.
The representative of NGOs dealing with the protection and promotion of the rights of LGBTI community, Agim Margilaj, mentioned the adequate legislation that Kosovo has in this area.
“Over the years we have worked hard and firmly to advance LGBTI rights in Kosovo as fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution and legislation in Kosovo. We consider that the Republic of Kosovo has one of the most advanced legislation in the Western Balkans region, a legislation that is in line with the European Union legislation”, he said.
Margilaj mentioned the National Action Plan on the rights of LGBTI Community, drafted by the LGBTI Advisory and Coordination Group for the rights of LGBTI Group, as one of the special practices that does not exist in other countries in the region.
The Pride Parade, under the motto “In the Name of Love”, will be organized on Tuesday, 10 October.
