Obiliq, 13 September 2017

The Prime Minister of Republic of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, visited last night the village Shipitulla after reaching an agreement with the inhabitants of villages Shipitullë and Hade of the Municipality of Obiliq.
In the surface mining, Prime Minister Haradinaj closely witnessed the resumption of the work of KEK excavators, which stopped their work 14 months ago, after disagreements between residents of that area and KEK.
“After all the consultations we had with the residents of Shipitulla and Hade, KEK management, Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Economic Development, and after a voluminous work, we have reached a solution. Excavators have commenced the work and we have prevented the stoppage of power generation”, stated Prime Minister Haradinaj.
He mentioned the loss that would be caused to the country if this agreement would not be reached. “Kosovo would lose about 500,000 euros a day, according to approximate calculations. So we were close to a situation that would cost us a lot”, said Prime Minister Haradinaj.

During his stay in the mine, Prime Minister Haradinaj said that he was convinced that power supply will be satisfactory during the winter season.

He also said that they took as a model for compensation for the homes of residents of Shipitulla the earlier model that the Government used for the neighbourhood Shala of Hade. “We found a solution that is dignifying for the residents, and this also emphasizes the care of the Government and the state of Kosovo for the displaced residents of Shipitulla, but also for the inhabitants of Hade”, said Prime Minister Haradinaj.

The Managing Director of KEK, Arben Gjukaj, thanked the Prime Minister for the constant engagement in addressing this issue. “The resumption of excavators today means security of supply. Thanks to this agreement we can confirm that we have avoided a catastrophic situation for residents and for the entire country”, said Gjukaj.
