The delegation of the Republic of Kosovo, led by Deputy Prime Minister Edita Tahiri, attended the regular meeting on November 3rd local elections, held in Brussels, September 12th to 14th, with the mediation of the OSCE.

The nature of the meeting was to assess the progress of the process of preparations for local elections, and the parties discussed on current developments and the importance of these elections.

On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Edita Tahiri confirmed the commitment of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and all state institutions to hold the local elections in a democratic and European spirit and in respect of Kosovo laws, as determined by the agreement on normalization of interstate relations between the Republic of Kosovo and Serbia.

She stressed the particular importance of these local elections, which are being held for the first time over the whole of Kosovo and significantly contribute to the establishment of democracy, law and normalcy in the northern municipalities of the country, where after many years citizens will elect, legally and legitimately, their municipal structures.

Deputy Prime Minister Edita Tahiri also highly praised the utmost commitment of the Central Election Commission as the body responsible for organizing elections in the Republic of Kosovo and thanked the OSCE for helping in this process. In this regard, she added that political parties and civic initiatives must respect legal principles and terms of the certification process, stressing that these elections are not just a test for democracy, but also a contribution to the normalization of the situation in the north of the country.

OSCE representatives expressed their satisfaction with the constructive cooperation of all parties in this process and praised, in particular, the work accomplished by the Central Election Commission for the success of the November 3rd local elections.
