The Government of the Republic of Kosovo condemns the base insults made against the Deputy of the Kosovo Assembly, Alma Lama.
The Government emphasizes that civic rights and freedoms, and particularly the freedom of speech, are guaranteed by the highest state document, the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo. Any violation of these rights guaranteed by the Constitution is a violation of the state of Kosovo and of our civic democracy.
The role of a deputy elected by the people is one of the most important roles and responsibilities in the institutions of the democratic state of Kosovo. This role and this institutional responsibility cannot be violated in any manner. It is the right and responsibility of every person elected by the people to freely express their positions and opinions, and those of the subject they represent.
The Government stresses it’s consistent position that hate speech and extremist and unbalanced opinions damage the consolidation and reinforcement of the democratic state of Kosovo.
Religious freedoms are guaranteed by the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, but in no way should they be misused to damage civic rights and freedoms, freedom of speech and above all, to damage and misinterpret genuine principles of religious belief.
