Prishtina, 11 January 2012

Under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo adopted the Strategy and Action Plan against Corruption for 2012-2016. Speaking of this document, Prime Minister Thaçi asserted that combating corruption and organized crime was, is and remains also for the future among the main priorities of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and all our institutions.

“It was the Anticorruption Agency and the Prime Minister’s Office, respective ministries, independent institution, the civil society, media and an international expert from the European Council who have been involved in this plan and have actively participated in drafting the Strategy and the action plan”, stated the Prime Minister, adding that these documents envisage details  and focused concrete objectives as well as the measures of prevention and combating corruption during the third strategic cycle in Kosovo which follows that of year 2004-2007 and 2009-2011. This new cycle covers the time period of five years and presents the objectives and measure to be realized in short, mid or even long terms as many of these may yield tangible results only after this time period, – stated Mr. Thaçi.

“Allow me to remind you that by adopting this strategic document, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo fulfils one of the main challenges foreseen by the European Commission” asserted Prime Minister Thaçi.

On this event Prime Minister Thaçi thanked all those who have worked for this strategy and action plan, all government units and also all independent institutions, representatives of the civil society but also the media and the representatives of the international community.

Today the Government also approved the proposal for the nomination of the Committee for Public-Private Partnership.

The Government today also allocated 400 thousand Euros in fixing damages due to the bad weather of the previous week which enveloped several parts of Kosovo. A joint committee shall be established in the coming days in order to conduct a final damage assessment.

Deputy Prime Minister Mimoza Kusari-Lila and the Minister of Internal Affairs informed the Government cabinet of the announcements to block border crossings with Serbia in Merdare and Dheu i Bardhe.

Speaking of this matter, Prime Minister Thaçi stated that the Government of Kosovo, all institutions of the Republic of Kosovo have full trust that the citizens of Kosovo, regardless of political differences, have always contributed to stability, peace, building the country, respecting the elected institutions.

“The Government of Kosovo deems that patriotism today is displayed by fully respecting the Constitution and the laws of the state of Kosovo. For all of us, the motivation for building up Kosovo is on the values, models and the European vision and not the Serbian model. Kosovo’s perspective is on integration and not in barricades. The announced action for violent acts against the legitimate institutions of Kosovo was unacceptable. In these times no one can take power by force and we have full confidence in the citizens of our country”, underscored Mr. Thaçi, adding that Kosovo needs the least of such inappropriate images in this process of the concrete beginnings of the European agenda for the Republic of Kosovo.

Further on, Prime Minister Thaçi said that election shall come and everyone may measure themselves before the citizens. “We shall be on the top of our duties and responsibilities. All parties are represented in the Assembly. It is the time of debates, of different opinions, of electing people by a free vote. Thus, I can only thank all citizens for the understanding and their trust, but at the same time for the commitment in building up our common future. I reiterate once again: in these few years that we a state, Constitution, our laws, we should obey these and we do not want to see events as they have occurred in countries of the region which someone may want to see them here. Their political goals through violence shall not be materialized in Kosovo”, asserted Mr. Thaçi.

“The greatest danger for Kosovo is if someone attempts any parallelism with the north. Nobody in Kosovo desires to see figure acting with the mentality as Zvonko Veselinoviq. Even Serbia distanced itself from him. On the other hand, there may also be fake patriots who may have hard feelings of not having given their contribution when they ought to have given this and now they cannot go back to that state. Serbia is no longer in Kosovo. Or I should better say that they rejected to put on the KLA uniform, and now they want to go to the border crossing of Dheu i Bardhe or in Merdar. This is intolerable, immoral and unacceptable for the people of Kosovo – stated Prime Minister Thaçi.

Therefore, we shall continue with our honest labour, our responsible labour, with the reforms, with our European agenda. I have full confidence that the other political spectrum will be clear in their position – either if they support or do not support these signals of violence. All of us have been in opposition for a time but we have never used violence. On the contrary. Elections will come, values are weighed, the vision of each one, but in no circumstance to provoke situations which are not compatible with this century, with the tradition of the people of Kosovo and far less with the red and black tradition or with the tradition of the establishment of Self Determination but of the establishment of self-sinking and neither of the red and black, as Prime Minister Berisha noted, the shameful ones.
