Prishtina, January 5, 2012

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, sent a telegram of condolence to family Shala on the passing away of the former senior officer of the KLA, Shaban Shala.

The telegram of condolence reads:

Dear family Shala,
It is with deep pain that we received the news of the passing away of the former senior officer of Kosovo Liberation Army, Shaban Shala.

The life and activities of Shaban Shala have always served to Kosovo’s liberation, ever since his engagements in the national movement in the end of the ’70-s, the demonstrations of 1981, a former political prisoner, who also acted as an activist of the Council for the Protection of Human Rights and Liberties and up until his enrolment in the Kosovo Liberation Army as a senior officer of the KLA.

The contribution of activist Shaban Shala has continued even after the liberation of Kosovo by being involved in strengthening and advancing Kosovo Protection Corps.

This entire contribution of activist Shaban Shala, at the service of freedom, independence and the development of Kosovo, shall remain written in the most recent history of Kosovo and it shall be remembered with the highest respect both from this generation and those to come.

On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and on my personal behalf, please accept my most sincere condolence.

Hashim Thaçi,
Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo
