Today, as part of his official state visit to the Republic of Estonia, Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi met with Estonian Prime Minister Andrus Ansip.
Prime Minister Thaçi and Prime Minister Ansip of Estonia discussed current political developments in Kosovo, Kosovo’s path towards Euro-Atlantic integration and the strengthening of cooperation between Kosovo and Estonia.
Prime Minister Thaçi presented Kosovo’s achievements since its declaration of independence and Kosovo’s future challenges. The Prime Minister said that the Government is strongly committed to advancing good, effective and transparent governance, strengthening the rule of law, ensuring an affirmative approach towards the rights of minority communities, sustainable economic development and an uncompromising fight against corruption and organized crime.
The Prime Minister highly praised the current cooperation between the two governments and thanked the Estonian Prime Minister, his Cabinet and all the state institutions of Estonia for the strong support they have given and are giving to Kosovo on its path towards development and integration.
Prime Minister Thaçi and Prime Minister Ansip of Estonia agreed to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fields of e-governance, education, agriculture, trade and industry.
Estonian Prime Minister Ansip assured Prime Minister Thaçi of the support of the Estonian Government for the Government of Kosovo in European integration and in Kosovo’s membership into international organizations.
Prime Minister Ansip of Estonia said, during the meeting, that he and the Government he leads will strongly support the integration of Kosovo into the European Union and NATO, emphasizing that Kosovo is part of the European family.
Apart from his meeting with the Prime Minister of Estonia, Prime Minister Thaçi also met separately with the President of the Republic of Estonia, Toomas Hendrik Ilves, and the Speaker of the Riigikogu (the Estonian Parliament), Ene Ergma.
In the meetings with the senior Estonian officials, Prime Minister Thaçi received assurances of continuing support for Kosovo from the institutions of the Republic of Estonia. Following the meetings, the Prime Minister concluded, “It is imperative to promote bilateral cooperation between Kosovo and Estonia, because it is in the interest of both our countries, and in the service of peace, development and integration.”
During his stay in the Estonian capital, the Prime Minister also had a working lunch with the chairman of the Estonia-Kosovo Friendship Group in the Parliament of Estonia, Hannes Astok. Prime Minister Thaçi utilized the meeting to express the appreciation of the Government and all the institutions of Kosovo for Mr. Astok’s work and he mentioned that the determination and the activities of the Kosovo-Estonia Friendship Group are the best testimony to the high level of cooperation between the two countries.
As part of the visit of the senior Government delegation, led by the Prime Minister and including Ministers Arsim Bajrami, Enver Hoxhaj, Idriz Vehapi and Lutfi Zharku, agreements of cooperation are to be signed today by the respective ministers of both Governments, in the fields of e-governance, agriculture, trade and industry.
