“What makes me feel even prouder today, in the work of this office, is that we have worked concretely, on the ground, to improve the quality of life of Kosovo Serb citizens, and the partnership with USAID, with the support of the American Embassy; has been vital to our joint success,” said Prime Minister Thaçi.

The Office for Community Affairs in the Office of the Prime Minister will work to offer premises, equipment, and a support staff for those working for the advisers of the Initiating Positive Change Program (IPCP), as well as for capacity building with support staff. This office also aims to contribute approximately 250,000 euro for joint projects for communities within a two year period, from the date of the signing of this agreement.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will offer technical support and training services through the Initiating Positive Change Program, as well as financial support with a contribution of approximately 250,000 euro for joint projects with communities during the two years from the date of the signing of this agreement.

The specific commitment of the Academy for Educational Development (AED) will be directed at offering technical support and services aiming for general capacity building in the Office for Community Affairs in the Office of the Prime Minister; in particular, building capacities with a public communications officer and an officer for financial aid and coordination, who will, in the mean time, be recruited for this office.

At the ceremony for the signing of the memorandum, Prime Minister Thaçi also stressed that concrete projects in education, in the returns process, economic development, the building of kindergartens and buildings for social use will continue, and that today’s step is an additional stride towards this end.

Tina Kaidanow, the Ambassador of the United States of America to Kosovo, said, “The United States Government will work together with the Government of Kosovo, as well as through our own programs, to help achieve the aim of sustainability for Kosovo’s communities.”

The memorandum of agreement was signed by Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi, Ambassador Tina Kaidanow, Srdjan Sentic, an adviser to the Prime Minister (Office of the Prime Minister/Office for Community Affairs), Patricia Rader (USAID) and Mark Pommerville (IPCP).
