Prishtina, 15 June 2009

All those at the meeting agreed on the achievements identified at the 16th Stabilization and Association Mechanism meeting which was held last week in Prishtina. They also discussed regional cooperation – finding a pragmatic approach to facilitate Kosovo’s representation at regional meetings.

Deputy Prime Minister Hajredin Kuçi said that following the country’s independence, European integration is the government’s number one priority. “Economic development and the European agenda lead in the same direction,” said Mr. Kuçi.

The liberalization of visas was also discussed at the meeting. Mr. Kuçi expressed the necessity of finding ways to enable Kosovo to become part of the process of visa liberalization, so that it is not the only Balkan country excluded from the process.

Tomas Szunyog, the Director of the South East Europe Department in the Foreign Ministry of the Czech Republic, said that he was happy with developments and the progress made in Kosovo, and pledged his country’s readiness for bilateral agreements for cooperation between the two countries.
