The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Hashim Thaçi, accompanied by the Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Enver Hoxhaj, inaugurated on the first day of the new school year the technical secondary school and the gymnasium “Hasan Tahsini” in Obiliq and the satellite branch of the “Ali Kelmendi” elementary school in the village of Nedakovc in Vushtrri, whereas he distributed the first ABC books for the schoolchildren of “Xhemail Mustafa” elementary school in Prishtina.
Prime Minister Thaçi said in front of the students and teachers of the “Hasan Tahsini” technical and high school in Obiliq that the Government of Kosovo remains committed in regarding education as a national priority. He said that the changes made this year with the increase of the teachers’ salaries and the distribution of free textbooks guarantee the strong commitment of the Government towards education.
“1 September is a day of hope, trust and a day of perspective for the students, but also of the new and reaffirmed commitment for all the teachers,” said Prime Minister Thaçi adding that we are starting the new school year for the first time in the independent, sovereign and democratic Kosovo. Further on, Prime Minister Thaçi said that we are starting this school year in an independent Kosovo as a result of age-long efforts by all of us, and at the same time we are starting this academic year in new and modern premises and also with much higher salaries for the Kosovar teachers and with free textbooks for 200 thousand schoolchildren.
The Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Enver Hoxhaj, too, congratulated all the students and the teachers of these schools and wished them a good and successful year in the new schools.
Calling this year as specific for our country and our people, because, as he said, it is the first time that we are starting a new academic year in the independent, sovereign and democratic Kosovo, Prime Minister Thaçi congratulated the students and the teachers of the “Xhemail Mustafa” Elementary School in Prishtina on the start of the school new year.
The Prime Minister distributed the ABC and other textbooks to the first-year pupils of this school. He expressed his acknowledgment for the work of the Ministry of Education on creating conditions to provide free textbooks for 200,000 school children in Kosovo. Textbooks for the students from the first to the fifth year will be provided free of charge, whereas next year they will be provided for all the pupils of the elementary schools in Kosovo.
