Prishtina, Peja, 10 July 2026

The Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, delivered a virtual lecture on the closing day of the fifth edition of UNISUM 2026 – the International Summer University, organized by “Haxhi Zeka” University in Peja.

After apologizing for being unable to attend in person, Prime Minister Kurti welcomed the international professors and students to Kosovo, noting that their strong participation in UNISUM 2026 demonstrates that higher education institutions are becoming important centres for scientific and cultural exchange.

“Our Government is investing so that knowledge and research transcend geographical borders. Our democratic state, with its tremendous human potential and active youth, continues to rise in various international rankings. At the same time, we are working together with our institutions to further expand opportunities for academic mobility, scientific research, and participation in international programs”, said the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister emphasized that during the previous governing mandate, the focus was restored to students and support for them through immediate measures and actions that promote equality, improve quality, and open higher education institutions to all students.

“One of the Government’s first decisions was to make public higher education tuition-free. Education in our country is a guaranteed right, and it was therefore our responsibility to remove this financial burden. As a result, more than 173,000 students at the bachelor’s and master’s levels have been exempted from tuition fees”, he said.

The Prime Minister also spoke about direct support for outstanding students, noting that nearly 10,000 students have been awarded merit-based scholarships.

This year’s edition of UNISUM, held from 29 June to 10 July, was attended by more than 100 international students and around 30 local students. Meanwhile, a total of 31 professors were engaged, including 16 local professors and 15 international professors, from countries such as Albania, the United States of America, Croatia, Turkey, Germany, Finland, Hungary, Poland, Moldova and Montenegro.

The academic program of the International Summer University focused on a variety of contemporary topics, such as Digital Transformation; Artificial Intelligence; Information Technology; Business and Economics; Human Resource Management; Agribusiness; Legal Sciences; Hospitality and Tourism Management; Environmental Protection; Musical Art; and other interdisciplinary fields.
