The Government of the Republic of Kosovo, at the proposal of the Ministry of Economy, during the 91st meeting, held in electronic form, has approved the decision to announce emergency measures in the energy supply.
The Government of the Republic of Kosovo reaches the decision to announce emergency measures in the energy supply, as a result of the current world energy situation: the rapid increase in the price of energy imports, as well as the warning of the ban on the export of fossil materials from some European countries which may affect the further increase of the import price.
The measures taken will remain in force for 60 (sixty) days after approval by the Assembly of Kosovo. The Assembly may extend this term for consecutive periods from 30 (thirty) days with a majority vote of the members of the Assembly present at the session, up to 180 (one hundred and eighty) days.
In order to ensure sufficient energy during the winter and to protect the public interest, the emergency measures, among others, include:
Supportive measures for citizens in order to provide heating during the winter; Ban on the use of electricity for cryptocurrency mining; The support of the Transmission and Market System Operator (KOSTT) to undertake the necessary actions in order to maintain the security of the electrical energy system; and Measures to save electricity consumption by all institutions.
At the same time, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, especially the Ministry of Economy, are monitoring the electricity situation in Kosovo and the interventions of the Electricity Corporation of Kosovo in the preparation of power plants for the winter season.
Although the power plants are outdated, the KEK management together with the maintenance teams are doing their best to ensure that the power plant blocks generate enough electricity to cover the local demand. KEK’s power plants are in operation more than 80% of the time during a year, which is above the world average of the work of coal-operated power plants. These repairs enable us to maintain this high average power generation and supply as regular as possible.
