Mitrovica, 2 April, 2024

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, accompanied by the Minister of Health, Arben Vitia, together with the Director of the Clinical and University Hospital Service, Elvir Azizin, inaugurated the Department of Pediatrics.

He was welcomed there by the Acting Director of the General Hospital of Mitrovica, Laura Nushi, together with the Director of the Department of Pediatrics, Qenan Çabra and the health staff. Together they visited the new premises of the ward.

About 1 million euros have been spent for its operation, of which about half of the amount is a donation from the association “Mother Teresa”, which operates in Germany with leader Shaqir Gashi and the association “Orphans of the Balkans”, with leader Halil Kastrati.

Of the total investment, about half of the investment is for infrastructure and inventory, while the other half is approximately for modern medical equipment.

The ward has 11 rooms, a room for intensive treatment and 25 beds for hospitalization. The old ward had only one room with seven beds.

“It is a pleasure and an honor for me, as the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, together with my Minister of Health, Arben Vitia and the director of CUHSK, Elvir Azizin, to be here today in Mitrovica, on the occasion of the inauguration of the Department of Pediatrics which has been blocked for 8 years with a related project that was finally realized in the best way possible” said Prime Minister Kurti after the ceremony.

He added that the department will have modern, state-of-the-art medical equipment that guarantees maximum care and the best opportunities for a complete and quick recovery for patients.

The new facility, in addition to the new infrastructure, will also offer new services that include radiology and spirometry services, as well as with modern equipment it will be possible to perform all the necessary laboratory tests for the patients of this department.

The Acting Director of Mitrovica Hospital, Laura Nushi, thanking Prime Minister Kurti and Minister Vitia, pledged that with the operationalization of pediatrics as a solution for an 8-year-old node, the children of Mitrovica will receive much better quality services with commitment and dedication maximum number of health personnel.

Prime Minister Kurti was accompanied by deputies of the VETËVENDOSJE! Movement, Armend Muja and Arjeta Fejza.

Prime Minister Kurti’s complete pronunciation:

It is a pleasure and an honor for me, as the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, together with my Minister of Health, Arben Vitia and the director of CUHSK, Elvir Azizin, to be here today in Mitrovica, on the occasion of the inauguration of the Department of Pediatrics of which has been blocked for 8 years with a related project that was finally realized as it is best and most complete.

I am very grateful to the hospital’s doctor, Laura Nushi, who is also the executive head of the Mitrovica Hospital, as well as the director of this ward, Dr. Qenan Çabra, who welcomed us and showed us these facilities with suitable working conditions for doctors and for the nurses, but also for the healing of the patients since all the medical equipment is new, the ceilings are high, the lighting is adequate and the colors of the environment are very pleasant.

The investment is about 1 million euros, of which about half comes from the “Mother Teresa” association in Germany, in which case we also have the leader Shaqir Gashi and the “Balkan Orphans” with the leader Halil Kastrati.

Previously, there was only one room with seven beds in this department, and there were over a thousand hospitalizations per year and 37 thousand outpatient visits, while now there will be a total of 11 rooms with 25 beds, one of the rooms will also be intense.

There will be modern, state-of-the-art medical equipment which of course guarantees maximum care and the best opportunities for full and quick recovery of all patients who will need this new department.

Once again, thank you very much for this hospitality, but also for the work you have continuously done during these years in difficult conditions, which I believe has finally been rewarded after 8 years with this new ward in which around half of the investment is for infrastructure and inventory, while the other half is approximately for modern medical equipment.
