Prime Minister Kurti was welcomed by the President of the European Parliament, Metsola

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, was welcomed in Strasbourg by the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, accompanied by the Secretary General of the European Parliament, Alessandro Chiocchetti and her staff. Together with Prime Minister Kurti, in this meeting were the Ambassador of Kosovo in Brussels, Agron Bajrami, the deputy of the Assembly of the Republic, once the leader of the Parliamentary Group of the VETËVENDOSJE Movement, Mimoza Kusari Lila and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Kreshnik Ahmeti.

With President Metsola, it was mainly discussed about the report and relations between Kosovo and the European Union, Kosovo’s application for membership in the European Union, the conclusion of the visa liberalization process and the level of applicability of the Stabilization-Association agreement. He thanked the European Parliament for supporting Kosovo’s application to the EU, alongside that for visa liberalization.

Being on the eve of the second anniversary of the Government, Prime Minister Kurti informed President Metsola about the achievements and successes so far and the plans for the second half of the mandate. Emphasis was placed on the improvements in the rule of law, the fight against corruption and democratic indicators, but also the positive trend of the economic indicators of the last two years. Among other things, Prime Minister Kurti also mentioned the EU Country Report for 2022, the best for Kosovo ever, in which Kosovo’s progress in many areas is evident.

The meeting also discussed the Energy Strategy 2022-2031, approved last week in the Assembly, and the approach of the Government’s plans for investments in renewable energy. The European Union has given Kosovo continuous support in this sector, including the support package in the face of the energy crisis in the amount of 75 million euros, caused by the Russian military aggression in Ukraine.

The European proposal, supported by Germany, France, Italy and the United States, and the next high-level political meeting that will be held this weekend in Ohrid, North Macedonia, were also discussed.
