The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosova, Albin Kurti, received the President of the Republic of Albania, Bajram Begaj, in a meeting today. Before the meeting, together with the delegations, Prime Minister Kurti and President Begaj held a tête-à-tête meeting.

Congratulating him on taking office, Prime Minister Kurti expressed his gratitude that President Begaj made his first official visit to Kosovo after taking office.

He congratulated Albania for opening negotiations with the European Union and reiterated the commitment and willingness to continue cooperation, as well as the further deepening and expansion of relations between our two countries.

Prime Minister Kurti emphasized the importance of Albania’s support in the processes of Kosovo’s membership in the NATO Partnership for Peace Program, the Adriatic Charter, the Council of Europe and the application for membership in the European Union.

Speaking about the concrete cooperation between the two republics, the importance of the project for the Durrës-Prishtina railway was discussed, and especially of investments in defense and security, as a matter of sovereignty, for which the cooperation of both countries was requested in this direction.

President Begaj thanked the Prime Minister for receiving him and emphasized the readiness for increased bilateral cooperation. He expressed full support for the fastest possible liberalization of visas for citizens of Kosovo and for Kosovo’s admission to the Council of Europe.

He also expressed his support for the government’s decisions regarding the reciprocity of license plates and identification documents, and congratulated the prime minister for the prudence and calm shown regarding the developments of July 31. President Begaj said that Kosovo’s independence is irreversible and emphasized the support for Kosovo’s positions in the dialogue with Serbia, which, as he said, should be concluded with a final agreement centred on mutual recognition.

Appreciating the excellent relations, they agreed that there should be more coordination in regional politics, in accordance with the democratic orientation, the common goal of membership in the European Union and the strengthening of the North-Atlantic alliance.
