Prishtina, October 4, 2022

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has received a letter from the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Liz Truss, as a response to the congratulatory letter sent on the occasion of her appointment.

Prime Minister Truss has thanked Prime Minister Kurti for the congratulatory letter sent on September 6, as well as for the condolences following the passing of her Majesty, the late Queen Elizabeth II. She also expressed her satisfaction for the two meetings with Prime Minister Kurti during this year, when she was Foreign Secretary.

The United Kingdom and Kosovo are clearly aligned in many fields, and there are great opportunities for our two countries to work together even more closely, wrote Prime Minister Truss.
The United Kingdom was proud of helping Kosovo secure its independence, and being the first country to formally recognize its independence in 2008, she wrote further.

I will continue to follow Kosovo with great interest as you move forward with your reform process, stated Prime Minister Truss at the end of the letter.

The full letter from Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Liz Truss:

Dear Prime Minister,

Thank you for your letter of September 6 and your kind words about my appointment.
I would also like to thank you for your public condolences following the passing of Her Majesty the late Queen Elizabeth II. She has been a constant and enduring presence in the life of our country for more than seven decades, and was extremely committed to the duty and to promoting the UK’s global relations.

It was a pleasure to meet with you twice this year when I was Foreign Secretary.

The United Kingdom and Kosovo are clearly aligned in many fields, and there are great opportunities for our two countries to work together even more closely.

Thank you also for Kosovo’s condemnation and swift implementation of sanctions in response to unprovoked invasion of Ukraine by Russia. It is important that European partners remain united during the difficult months ahead and respond with appropriate steps to Russian aggression.
The United Kingdom was proud of helping Kosovo secure its independence, and being the first country to formally recognize its independence in 2008. I will continue to follow Kosovo with great interest as you move forward with your reform process.

The full letter of Prime Minister Kurti:

Dear Prime Minister,

On behalf of the Republic of Kosovo, I congratulate you on your election as Head of the Conservative and Unionist Party and on your appointment by Her Majesty, the Queen, as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

Our continent faces multiple challenges that require a coordinated response, and I am relieved by the clear vision you outlined in our two meetings earlier this year.

As we face the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, the energy crisis and the rising cost of living, along with Russia’s growing authoritarianism and unprovoked aggression against Ukraine, we look forward to your leadership to help Europe and the rest of the world to navigate through these difficult times. Please be sure that, as you do this, you can rely on the partnership, cooperation and solidarity of Kosovo.

The United Kingdom holds a special place in the hearts and minds of the people of Kosovo because you supported us in our liberation struggle against a genocidal regime. We will never forget; and we are forever grateful.

Our government is working hard in the fulfilment of its promises for jobs and justice for our citizens by investing in the human capital, closing the skills gap through revitalizing the quality of our education, and reforming the justice system.

Dear Prime Minister, it will be my honour to welcome you to Kosovo at the first opportunity that is convenient for you. Please accept my warmest wishes and highest consideration as you assume this crucial role in these challenging times.
