Prime Minister Kurti part of the campaign “Say no to plastic bags”

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, accompanied by the Minister of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure, Liburn Aliu, has visited some of the markets in the center of Pristina, with the aim of promoting the practice of reducing plastic bags among the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, with the call “Say no to plastic bags”.

In his visit to the markets, Viva Fresh and Maxi, Prime Minister Kurti, speaking about the administrative guidance and the specifics and advice for citizens and business representatives, said that within the framework of the changes we want to bring with our democratic governance for protection of the environment were here today as part of this “Let’s say no to plastic bags” campaign.

Giving details about this campaign, the Prime Minister emphasized that bags without eyelets, without gloves, from 0 to 25 microns, will be given for free, while those from 25 microns to 50 microns, except that they will no longer have a logo, they will also have a cost of 5 cents per bag, since in this way they will increase the sensitivity and responsibility for the environment, but also we will make people aware of climate change.

“We have all seen that the floods that have been caused in Kosovo have highlighted how many unnecessary plastic bags have turned into garbage that has massively polluted the environment, so I hope for your cooperation with this new administrative instruction and with this campaign”.

Meanwhile, on this occasion, Prime Minister Kurti has also called on the markets to strictly implement the Administrative Instruction, at the same time he has invited the citizens to take their bags with them when they go shopping in the markets.

On this occasion, he thanked the German Embassy, Deputy Ambassador Matthias Conrad, who joined Minister Liburn Aliu today in this visit to markets with the “Say no to plastic bags” campaign.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure, Liburn Aliu, said that since the bags were given for free in the past, the number of their use was extremely large, so much so that consumers only received several bags for one product. Therefore, the pollution was also greater.

He further talked about the type and importance of thicker reusable bags and the use of bags.
