The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu, the Speaker of the Assembly, Glauk Konjufca, together with members of the government cabinet and Ambassador William Walker, participated today in the commemorative ceremony on the occasion of the 25 – the anniversary of the Reçak Massacre.

In this ceremony organized under the patronage of the Prime Minister’s Office, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, paid tribute and laid wreaths at the memorial complex, in Reçak, in honor of the civilian victims massacred by the Serbian forces, on January 15 of 1999.

“On January 15, in an extremely cold winter, this macabre crime took place, while the burial of 45 civilians took place only four weeks later because there was a big fight for the corpses,” said Prime Minister Kurti. He also added that there are 11 soldiers of the Kosovo Liberation Army who have fallen in battle for the protection of the bodies massacred by Serbia and that those four weeks show that Serbia has tried to distort the truth and justify the crime.

In the end, thanking Ambassador Walker, Prime Minister Kurti emphasized that at a decisive and historic moment for our people, Ambassador Walker spoke the truth and only the truth, what Serbia has tried to distort.

“When the massacre of Reçak happened, Ambassador William Walker as the leader of the OSCE, in Kosovo, came here to the villagers and spoke the truth, he said this is a massacre and a crime against humanity. It is known that the truth is the greatest enemy of dictators and chauvinists, therefore to this day Ambassador William Walker continues to be the most attacked and hated international in Serbia, where an authoritarian regime continues to dominate the former Minister of Information of that time is today the President of Serbia”.

Glory to all martyrs and martyrs of the nation!

Prime Minister Kurti’s statement to the media:

The massacre of Reçak here 25 years ago when 45 Albanian civilians were killed shocked the international public opinion as well as the world diplomacy and made the military intervention of NATO necessary to stop the genocide of Serbia in Kosovo.

When the Reçak massacre happened, Ambassador William Walker as the leader of the OSCE in Kosovo, came here to the villagers and spoke the truth. He said this is a massacre and a crime against humanity. It is known that the truth is the greatest enemy of dictators and chauvinists, therefore to this day Ambassador William Walker continues to be the most attacked and hated international in Serbia, where an authoritarian regime continues to dominate the former Minister of Information of that time is today the President of Serbia.

On January 15, in an extremely cold winter, this macabre crime took place, while the burial of 45 civilians took place only four weeks later because there was a great fight for the corpses. We also have 11 soldiers of the Kosovo Liberation Army who fell in battle for the protection of the bodies massacred by Serbia, and those four weeks show that Serbia has tried to distort the truth, to justify the crime.

Therefore, once again I am emphasizing the importance of the truth from the mind, eyes, ears and mouth of Ambassador William Walker to whom we are forever thankful and grateful because at a decisive historical moment for our people he spoke the truth and only the truth.

Glory to all martyrs and martyrs of the nation!

Thank you Ambassador Walker.
